Sculptra®
Overview
After the age of 20, we lose about 1% of collagen per year. A lack of collagen leads to wrinkles and sagging in the face and body. Sculptra® Aesthetic uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to rebuild lost collagen and give patients a more youthful look. Sculptra® is a versatile treatment as it can be used on any area of the face or body.
The Science
Most fillers use hyaluronic acid to soften wrinkles and produce collagen. Sculptra® Aesthetic uses PLLA to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin. PLLA is a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that absorbs into the skin. When PLLA microparticles are absorbed, collagen production begins and the face or body begins to see restored volume and fullness, reducing wrinkles and folds. Patients typically start out with a series of 3-4 injections. After the series of initial treatments, Sculptra® lingers in the body and touch-ups are usually only needed every 6-12 months. Results can last more than two years.
What to Expect
During a Sculptra® Aesthetic procedure, a fine needle is injected deep into the skin. The entire treatment takes less than 30 minutes and requires no downtime. Patients may return to normal activities after treatment. After treatment, patients see gradual improvement in volume and fullness in wrinkles and folds. Eighty percent of Sculptra® Aesthetic patients still rated their results as “good” or “excellent” 25 months after treatment.
