Overview

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a new type of healing therapy used for cosmetic and sexual rejuvenation. PRP uses a patient’s own blood and creates a serum using concentrated platelets (growth factors that promote healing and repair). PRP can improve skin tone, rejuvenate the deep dermis of the skin, stimulate hair growth, and can be used for vaginal rejuvenation.

The Science

PRP is made by drawing blood from a patient and separating the different components of the blood. PRP is a completely natural product made from your own body. These platelets are cells that help tissue heal and grow new collagen and tissue.

PRP therapy is often used for skin rejuvenation. It causes the skin to smooth and tighten, which softens wrinkles and gives patients better skin texture. The laser and energy devices used with PRP therapy open a channel in the skin so the PRP can penetrate deep into the skin. Additionally, PRP therapy can help patients regrow hair that has been lost by stimulating natural hair growth. Women have also found that PRP therapy used in the vagina (called the “O” Shot) can improve sexual function and orgasms.

What to Expect

A PRP injection process takes less than an hour and can be performed right in our office. The number of injections depends on a patient’s unique condition, but usually range from one to six and can be done over time. Most patients begin to see cosmetic results, hair growth, or sexual stimulation after the first or second injection. Injections are relatively painless, depending on the injection site. Some patients may feel discomfort after the procedure, which can be mitigated with over the counter pain relievers. PRP treatments are relatively safe since they use a patient’s own blood – there is no risk of allergic reactions. Side effects are rare and can include infection, bleeding, and nerve damage.
